Doris Marie (Cratsenberg) Huffaker

September 25, 1923 ~ June 6, 2017 (age 93)

Doris Marie Cratsenberg Huffaker was born September 25, 1923 to Beulah (Sutton) and Lloyd Cratsenberg in Lincoln, Nebraska. She grew up in the Lincoln area and graduated from Bethany H.S. in 1942. She attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and was an avid Husker alum all her life. It was there in a square dance class that she met her husband, Dillard Huffaker. They both served their country during WWII – Dillard in the Army, and Doris as a Navy WAVE. After the war, they returned to UNL, finished their degrees, and married on June 10, 1946. They were separated once again when Dillard was recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict. Doris worked as a home extension agent until the birth of their first daughter, Patricia in January 1953 while living in Hiawatha, Kansas. Jane was born December 1954 and Lyn in September 1960. By then they lived in Osborne, Kansas where they would live, work and raise their family until 1972. Doris was an active member of the United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and was a 4-H leader for many years.

In 1972, Dillard’s work took them to Emporia, Kansas where Doris worked as a social worker until her retirement in 1986. In 1987 Doris and Dillard moved to their lake home near LaCygne, Kansas where they enjoyed retirement! In 1999, they relocated to Casper, WY where they lived until their deaths – Dillard in 2004 and Doris on June 6, 2017 at the age of 93. In Casper Doris was a member of the First Presbyterian Church (EPC), NARFE, American Legion Auxiliary and several sewing and quilting groups. She loved to sew, and loved her family – both immediate and extended. She was a wonderful at letter writing and kept in touch with many friends from all the seasons of her life. She got great joy from watching her grandchildren grow up and was very involved in all of their lives. She traveled – mostly to spend time with family. Most recently she received great happiness enjoying the lives of her three great grandchildren.

She is survived by three daughters, Pat Christensen (Brian), Casper, WY, Jane Morrical (Jim), The Woodlands, TX, Lyn Huffaker (Craig Cowley), Topeka, KS; grandchildren, Courtney Moore (Daniel), Spring, TX, Carissa Marek (Huberth), Casper, WY, Clancy Morrical, Spangdahlem, Germany, Lanette Christensen, College Station, TX, Peyton Cowley, Topeka, KS, and Carson Cowley, Topeka, KS; great grandchildren, Gabriel Moore, Spring, TX, Sullivan Moore, Spring, TX, and Graycen Moore, Spring, TX; brother, Gale Cratsenberg (Noma), Lincoln, NE; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
